The Nassawango Outdoor Quilt show takes place every other year in the years ending in odd numbers and celebrates the traditional folk art of quilting. 2011 will be the third show and we are growing every year!

Quilters from all over are invited to enter their quilts into the judged show. Categories have been created to show the variety of quilts entered. Some of the categories include: Large Bed Quilts, Wall Hangings, Hand Sewn, Beginner, Applique, Group Quilts, Block of the Month and so much more! We've also included our very own Block of the Month Quilt - Rebekah Rose for which we will have a seperate category. See the details listed below.

At the show this year, you will also find quilting vendors, lectures and various demonstrations. We've announced this year's Teacher lineup and they will hold various workshops on September 7, 8 & 9, just days before the quilt show. Check out their biographies on-line and visit their websites to view their quilting creations. Then, browse our NEW secure on-line form to sign-up for Quilt Workshops and learn their techniques for yourself. If you'd prefer to download the information and send us your workshop registration by mail, you'll find it here. We have only 20 seats for each Workshop, so don't delay - and sign-up today!

If you want to enter your quilt(s) in our show, use our new secure on-line registration form. You may enter up to 5 quilts. We've also posted our entry rules and details on-line for your reference. If you'd rather download the information and send us your entry form by mail, you'll find it here.

Stay tuned for upcoming information on Workshop Supply Lists and Workshop Locations. If you have questions, please send an e-mail to quiltshow@furnacetown.com or call us at 410-632-2032.

2011 Block of the Month Quilt

Rebekah Rose

The inspiration for the 2011 Block of the Month Quilt is from the book - “Rebekah Rose: A Girl of Old Furnace Town”, written by Grace A. Ayers.   Copies can be obtained by visiting our Gift Shop, or call us at
410-632-2032.

The traditional patterns were chosen and descriptions were written by Stacy Mitchell, owner of The Fine Needle in Snow Hill; to relate to Rebekah Rose’s life at Furnace Town.

There are 12 pieced and 4 appliqué patterns provided as well as 2 house variations, a tree and several other block patterns. For each block, directions will be given for a 12”, 9” and 6” finished size.

At the quilt show in September 2011, there will be an entry category for the Rebekah Rose Block of the Month Quilt of any size using any or all the Block of the Month patterns. You may use any of the sizes alone or you may insert the 9” and/or 6” blocks into the house and star patterns provided or use designs of your own.

Our sample quilt at the right was designed by Barbara Hudson using the Electronic Quilt program. She used different combinations of the block patterns for this design. Get the Patterns and Instructions and create a one of a kind quilt today!

We hope you enjoy the story of Rebekah Rose.

These photos are from the 2007 and the 2009 Outdoor Quilt Show at Furnace Town Living Heritage Museum.

Many were taken by participants and visitors. The quilts represent a wide variety of techniques and sizes. Many of the quilts were prize winners in the different categories.

Thank you to all who participated, visited, and volunteered at our past shows and helped to make them successful.
