Cotton, peanuts, broom corn and Job’s Tears are just a few of the demonstrations crops grown in the Kitchen Garden. They join vegetables and herbs typical of the early 19th century planted to show the four major roles played by the gardens of that time: for healing, for beauty and good smells, for color, and for food and food preparation and preservation. Concord grapes, a Turkey Fig, a Blood Peach, Damson Plum and a Pippin Apple provide fruit. Two rustic garden sheds house tools, seeds, and storage items. A library of garden-related books is available for reference and research.
